OphtalmologistDrVikramMohindradiagnosedtheswellingastheparasiticinfectiondirofilariasisthatiscausedbymosquitobites.

AccordingtotheJournalofParasiticDiseases,thereare800reportedcasesworldwideofdirofilariasissinceitwasfirstdocumentedin1885.However,thereisanalarmingconcernofincreasedincidenceanditisnowconsideredanemergingzoonosisordiseasecomingfromanimalsaspermedicalupdatesonthedisease.
